The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is one of the major public universities of Spain. It is located in Bellaterra, close to Barcelona.
The UAB is located at position 177 in the world ranking (and 79 in Europe). According to the QS top 50 under 50 Ranking 2012/2013, which includes universities founded less than 50 years ago, the UAB ranks 9th in the world ranking, 4th at European level, and is the first-ranked Spanish university. During the EC Framework Programme 7th period (2007-2013) the UAB has participated in more than 282 international competitive projects: 168 European projects (including 9 ERC) funded with +44M€ and acting as a coordinator for 16 of them. UAB also has participated in more than 114 International research projects outside the FP7 (DG EAC projects, LIFE, CORES, ESF, ESA, NATO, ENIAC, etc).
Since the beginning of Horizon 2020 programme (2014-2020) the UAB has been funded on +80 european projects (+32M€), including 8 ERC excellence science projects. The UAB has also been funded since 2014 with other +120 international competitive projects
The UAB is ranked on 7th possition for Spain for EC H2020 granted funds and on 105th position worlwide over +15.000 H2020 participants.
Furthermore, the UAB offers 133 Master’s degrees, as well as 8 Erasmus Mundus Master's degrees; more than 1,114 PhD dissertations have been elaborated within its doctoral programs. The University has over 37,700 students, almost 3,700 researchers and teaching staff, and it hosts more than 6,000 foreign students. Regarding the UAB’s research activity, the following data stands out: 3,316 articles published in indexed journals (2015 Thompson Reuters WOK); 640 research agreements; 273 research national projects; 64 patents claimed (2015)- and new 8 companies hosted at UAB’s Research Park (including 3 spin-offs during 2015).
