The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is one of the major public universities of Spain. It is located in Bellaterra, close to Barcelona. Currently, the University offers 81 undergraduate courses on a wide variety of disciplines, 84 official Master’s degrees, 6 Erasmus Mundus Master's degrees. More than 700 PhD dissertations has been elaborated in its doctoral programs. The University has 41,000+ students, almost 4,600+ researchers and teaching staff, and it hosts 6,000+ foreign students.
The University is therefore a breeding ground for quality researchers and a centre for the dissemination of knowledge and technologies, and it plays a leading role in scientific research. Regarding the UAB’s research activity, the following data stands out: 3,496 articles published in indexed journals (2012 Thompson Reuters WOK); 347 research agreements; 231 research national projects; 51 patents claimed (2012)- and 53 spin-off companies (2012). The UAB is the first-ranked university in Spain according to the QS World University Ranking 2013/2014. The UAB is located at position 177 in the world ranking (and 79 in Europe). According to the QS top 50 under 50 Ranking 2012/2013, which includes universities founded less than 50 years ago, the UAB ranks 9th in the world ranking, 4th at European level, and is the first-ranked Spanish university. Among Spanish universities. The UAB “International Excellence Campus” as awarded by the Spanish government, plays a leading role in scientific research internationally.
During the FP7, UAB was funded in 168 projects receiving 44+ M€ of funding and in 114+ international competitive research projects outside the FP7 (DG EAC projects, ESA, LIFE, CORES, ESF, NATO, ENIAC, etc). UAB is currently hosting 97 excellent projects funded by the European Research Council.
